More than 60% of all the households in the United States have some kind of pet. In fact, there are an estimated 110 million cats and dogs alone, not to mention all the hamsters, birds, fish, and other pets. According to the American Humane Society, these pets are happiest when they're at home, surrounded by familiar sights, sounds and smells.
Nine in ten pet owners surveyed say they consider their pet a member of the family.
63% of dog owners and 58% of cat owners surveyed said they give their pets presents at Christmas or Hanukkah.
4% of surveyed pet owners said they include news about their pet, and 36% include a photograph. in their holiday cards.
